Chateau de Beru Tasting // Thursday, March 21 @ 5pm-8pm

  • 4011 Allston St. Cincinnati, Ohio (map)

Join us as we dive into some super special, highly allocated bottles from Château de Béru! We’ll be opening 4 of Athénaïs’ wines and featuring some stunning food specials by Chef David Saffles. Swing through to taste history in a glass!

Château de Béru dates back to the 1600s, when the Béru family first took ownership of the domaine. There is somehow evidence of pre-biodynamic winemaking even prior to that, as the stunning image of the lunar calendar inscribed on an outer wall of the castle below demonstrates. This goes to show, the history of natural winemaking runs incredibly deep in Béru, which is also the name of the village there, fortified in the 12th and 13th centuries.

Phylloxera unfortunately ravaged the vines, which the Béru family had relied upon until that point. It was then not until 1987 that Éric de Béru replanted them, and these are the vines used today. He has passed down the mantle to his daughter, Athénaïs, who "re-converted" to natural winemaking
practices gradually: manual harvest began in 2005, organic certification in 2006, and biodynamic certification in 2010. Looking into the future, the Béru family broke ground on a larger zero-carbon facility in 2021, and Athénaïs launched négoce projects in 2010 to showcase other certified organic vines in the area. These projects comprise the Athénaïs label, while the Cháteau de Béru wines are estate fruit. (We’ll be pouring a little of both!)
